Award Winning American Woodcarver Coming to Harvest Gold!

Original publish date: June 4th, 2012

We are always excited to share with you, in some detail, the artists that we have show cased at the gallery, especially when they are from our own home state like Rob Jones, our featured artist of the week. Rob Jones is an award winning American Woodworker from Thomaston, Maine. He began his art by building, with assistance, his first banjo, an instrument that had always held an interest for him. Since then, he has built several instruments including banjos, a French horn, trombones, and a trumpet. His musical instruments are played by music professors. He entered his lobster carving in the Maine Sportsman Show and he won the People's Choice award and was hooked from that point on. To view some of his works visit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqWRsRDDb1M

At the gallery, we are delighted to have a sample of his very unique bowls, Baltic by Design. They come in four different sizes from small for a candle holder to large enough to be a center piece with fruit. With the wedding season upon us or Father's Day right around the corner, these would made a fabulous and timeless gift. Stop by any day!

Paul Bendzunas Art Glass has Organic Flair

Original publish date: May 10th, 2012

Aqua Frog

Here at Harvest Gold we are always thrilled when new items and pieces come in for us to place around the gallery. One of our favorite returning glass artists is Paul Bendzunas. Paul's obvious love of nature and it's soothing palette, will delight anyone when they see his fine, hand-blown vases that are themed around nature.

Green Frog

Combining traditional design elements with contemporary influences, Bendzunas has evolved an unusual style based primarily on natural and organic forms. His surface patterns involve animal and aquatic imagery. He achieves this effect by using colored enamels – the same crushed glass powders used in cloisonné jewelry – and precious metals, in combination with bits of crushed glass. He achieves distinctive colors using various formulations of metallic oxides such as gold, silver, cobalt and others, blended into the molten glass. Using classic glassblowing techniques that are thousands of years old, Bendzunas works the glass at temperatures in excess of 2000 degrees F. He forms and shapes each piece individually, without the use of molds. Each piece is one of a kind and is signed and dated.
His work is included in numerous public and private collections, including those of the Westinghouse Corporation, R.J. Reynolds Corporation and the State of Georgia Council for the Arts and Humanities. He has exhibited his work at galleries, museums and juried shows throughout the United States.

Michael Tatum Showing at Harvest Gold

Original publish date: May 8th, 2012

Harvest Gold Gallery is happy to present the wonderful work of Michael Tatom.  His captures the spirit of the animals.  The quick look from the grey fox.

Michael Tatom has been a sculptor for more than twenty years. He was born in Los Alamos, NM where he was surrounded by a family of artists and designers.

In 1994 Michael started sculpting his series of bronze animals, each with their own magical shape and movement. Using simple and graceful lines he has become a successful sculptor.  The quiet fawn resting in the wood.  The lurking cougar stalking.

Michael Tatom quotes: "The main focus of my work is to translate into bronze the essence of the animal, to capture some movement or instinct and present it in a simple, stylized form.

The last and one of my favorite parts of the process is the patina. There are so many variables when working with patina. The different colors and textures have a dramatic effect on the feel of the finished sculpture."

Intertwined and Braided Wedding Rings!

Original publish date: May 7th, 2012

This season has been very exciting with all the new intertwined and braided possibilities we have been making!
The narrow three strand braid for the bride.
People have great ideas.  They have been choosing all one color and variations.

Some have inspired us to make a wider version of our favorite three strand intertwined ring :)

This in both his and hers :)
Some have wanted to add side bands in color to accent the center weave in these Celtic bands.
The side rings look nice on the traditional braid too!
The traditional braid in our favorite colors, yellow, rose and green golds.
