Rebecca Klementovich is a talented artist here at Harvest Gold Gallery, who began working in abstract art after graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. With her degree in Fine Art she later became a member of the ‘Femme Fatales of the North,’ a group of painters and photographers who work to challenge artistic notions commonly grounded in the Northeast: New Hampshire, in particular, is a deeply artistic community, with its beautiful views of the presidential mountain range and other regional scenery. Artists have been coming to New Hampshire for centuries to capture its beauty, Rebecca included. She loves the feeling of the wind rustling her hair as she sets her easel up outside, and the paint beneath her gentle brush strokes. Unfortunately, gender inequalities are entrenched in the culture of traditional, classical, and realistic art. The female gender makes up a tiny percentage of artists that sell successfully in galleries and shops throughout the area. Klementovich argues that this is due to the general populace commonly associating ‘good’ art with traditional schools like the White Mountain School of Art, and subconsciously with exclusively men. 

Rebecca refuses to let her voice or artwork be stifled; she expands her color palette beyond the obvious green, brown, and blue of mountain landscapes, by using textured layers of loud vibrant color to capture their complexity. 
"We're just trying to start a conversation: What are women painters in the North about?" Klementovich says. She hopes her artwork will not only encourage equality in the art community but also inspire other women to pursue their passions and push the boundary for something different.
