Beautiful Day For A Plein Air!

Today was a wonderful day for a plein air- with a nice breeze, it created the ideal day for painting outside! Today we had the pleasure of seeing Kristen Dill in action. Her beautiful use of color and values in her work was a delight to see come together on canvas. 

The perfect scenic day: Kristen started by painting the mountain landscape. She explained how she builds texture with a mix of wax and paint. It was incredibly interesting to listen to her explain her process of creating texture and blocking colors. Please click on the photo to take a look at Kristen Dills artist profile!

The finishing touches: some of the final adjustments out in the field for todays first painting for the plein air. 

Here is Kristen starting her second painting of the day, a depiction of two bouquets. She begins to block out the initial shapes of the painting, and the values! 

 

While not quite done in this picture, Kristen had a great time today! She also brought in four new pieces, so please keep a look out on the website, or stop by in store to see them! Thank you to everyone who came to see Kristen today, and for supporting the gallery!

"Revergent" by David Allen- New Sculpture

David is relatively new artist here at the gallery, however he has been creating art for over 20 years. He recently dropped off a new piece- "Revergent." It is a kinetic sculpture, meaning it spins, and also is made totally of granite. The top of this sculpture is drop shaped and completely smooth.  The base has a smoothed center that is precisely designed so that the top part of the sculpture can be mobil but also not fall off of the base.

Art In Bloom: Jean Swan Gordon's Paintings

Jean Swan Gordon found her love for drawing and painting flowers while summering in East Boothbay, Maine. She finds flowers special because "As with people, no two are the same" so she works to convey the variety and uniqueness of different flowers. She uses a black ink design on white paper with layers of spirited watercolors to capture the lighting, the life and growth of the flowers, and the velvet essence of the petals. 

Jean's artwork will brighten and bring joy to any room it is placed in! You can see her passion in every paint or ink stroke. Her paintings would make perfect Valentine's Day Gifts, to represent blooming growth, love, and positive energy!

A Winter Refresh: New on Display works from Tom Jewell!
We are so excited to have two paintings by Tom Jewell out for display new this week, that we feel truly exude the fresh and fabulous winter in Maine! Both depict the area and slopes around Sugarloaf and are a blend of powdered pigments and mineral oils - a truly old school way of blending your own paints. 
Come see them in person to truly get a glimpse of true Maine winter!
 


Bill Jewell was born in Bangor, Maine, and at age three, his family relocated to Portland, Maine where he lived until 1983. His interest in creativity began with drawing detailed birds out of an old book that his favorite Aunt gifted him as a child. From there he became intrigued with the unique color transitions and silhouettes at sunset and sunrise which were inspiration for his earliest watercolor paintings. They are still one of his preferred subject matters to paint.

29th Anniversary for Harvest Gold Gallery!

This Christmas Eve, Bill and Lynda will be celebrating their 29th year at the Harvest Gold Gallery!

Bill began his career with Lynda, but soon found his own inspiration and developed a line of unique flexible earrings and bracelets, which he took to the next level under instruction from master goldsmith Hekki Steppe of Helsinki, Finland. Bill’s life-time quality bracelets have since been sold to hundreds of fine jewelry stores and galleries. Many happy customers have revisited Harvest Gold and shared their appreciation for the long lasting craftsmanship by Bill.

Together these two jewelers created a line of timeless jewelry, including resurrecting family heirlooms by redesigning them into new treasures for current and future generations. The gallery, located on Route 5 in Center Lovell, is open daily and looks forward to celebrating their anniversary with you this holiday season!
