Loons or divers are a group of aquatic birds found in much of North America and northern Eurasia. All living species of loons are members of the genus Gavia, family Gaviidae and order Gaviiformes.  The common loon is the provincial bird of Ontario and is depicted on the Canadian one-dollar coin, which has come to be known affectionately as the "loonie".

But you probably knew all of that, as around here we exitedly swap stories of watching them nest, and the rare treat it is to see a baby loon. Why not memorialize that with some great art?

We were so excited to get three new works by Rebecca Klementovich this week, all her signature stunners with vivid hues and textural magic abound. While were not ready to give up what warm weather we do have around here left, these snowy scenes do get our hearts racing for ski season. 

 One of the first abstract artists to show at Harvest Gold, Klementovich seeks to introduce a new color palette and style of painting to New England that can challenge the hold that traditional schools have on the region. Her bright colors and the motion that can be seen through her strong brush strokes seek to represent the natural rhythm and vibrancy that can be seen in the mountains and trees all around us.

We had a great time with the folks from Lonely Planet yesterday, who came in to see us as a destination and to get a special inside view of Lynda at work at her bench jewelry making - a rare treat! 

We're going to give you blog goers the same inside view here! Pictured is of course our own lovely Lynda, along with photos of her bench where she makes all of her jewelry. As you can see these are some in progress shots with some gorgeous local tourmalines out ready to be expertly set for your next jewelry pieces.

According to the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), pink tourmaline is rated 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it durable enough for everyday wear in jewelry.

Feast your eyes on this threshold into fall on two of our newest additions, from artist Jeanne Ouellette! 

We've been carrying Jeanne's work for a few years now, and are delighted to see her dreamy local landscapes come in and go to their forever homes, but how about this awesome new night scene, "Night Cabin"?! We love the ethereal glow and the soft comforting light shining from the little cabin on the water. It reminds us of so many of the lovely camps in the summer night right here on Lake Kezar.

By contrast, we have a day scene by water, "Exiting the Narrows". Do you also feel like you're seeing this view from a serene kayak trip too?

Jeanne Ouellette paints the world around her. Trained as a landscape architect, she has found herself at the intersection of the natural environment and design throughout her career. A skilled draftsman, she is focused on interpreting the landscape of Maine in oil paint. She takes particular inspiration from the mountains, rivers and seacoast. Her work reflects the village character of small towns, as well as the vitality of downtown neighborhoods.

Jeanne Ouellette graduated with a BA in Art from Colby College, Waterville, Maine and a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Her studio is in Lovell, Maine.

It's no secret that one of our most loved, and most popular artists here at Harvest Gold is Kristen Dill; with her dreamy reflections on Maine lakeside summers with her own distinct flair. Dills work is characterized by the bold and bright colors of summer, and a textural element that gives each work life. Many of her works feature local gardens and flower arrangements, but they extend far further into lakeside scenes, fruit and insects, and depicting the magical New England summer life. 

We were proud to receive of several of her newest works this week, which can be seen on our website or here in the shop in person! So stop by and view, or grab one for yourself!
