Amy Laskin

Amy Laskin was born in Philadelphia, has residence in New Hampshire, yet her artistic journey has led her to the rural Blue Mountains in Jamaica where she practices her art. Laskin is known for her mysterious landscapes as well as intricate floral bursts often emanating from a snippet of clothing, or an abstracted female form.

She recieved her MFA from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago and lived in the Windy City before she began her travels to Jamaica as a Peace Corps Volunteer in 1986. After the Peace Corps she stayed in the country to further explore the amazing bio-diversity of the area. Amy loves decorative abundance and smooth surfaces. She builds up many layers of thin paint and glazes to achieve multidimensionality. She is greatly influenced by nature's mysteries and the beautiful exotic lowers found in her immediate environment. Her work can be described as surrealistic.
