This piece is made completely of granite, each side has a different carving; one side features deep circles that expand from one another (how it got its name) while the other side shows a checkered pattern. The circular cutout in the center slopes slightly so the perspective on each side is also different. David's goal when creating this sculpture was to make a window of sorts, a window that focuses on one view and illuminates it.
This stunning round box was hand turned on a Rose Engine lathe here in Maine. Note the gorgeous changes in grain color around the curve of the box. The box stands at 6" high (including finial), and the inner diameter is 3".
