Glass Artist Janet Zug

Janet started blowing glass when she was just 22 years, she completely fell in love with the art form. Soon she created Zug glass- however she spent the next 12 year renting out other artist's glass studios to make her art. During that time she was also a studio assist in NC and NY. In 2004 she was finally able to create her own hotshop, the place where you heat glass, in her house in VT. Now she is constantly creating new glass pieces. Despite consistently working with the same medium, Janet never tires of glass blowing because it's always changing. Come into Harvest Gold Gallery to check out her work in person, or visit out online store!

Pottery- Cassandra Weare

    Cassandra Weare is a Massachusetts potter who is new to Harvest Gold Gallery. She had an interest in pottery, but for years it was pushed under the rug until she decided to try again. It had been the missing piece in her life and now she has her own studio. All of her pieces are designed and hand thrown in her little studio on Cape Cod. Cassandra enjoys experimenting with her pottery- wether that be the glazes, color, form or techniques. She is passionate about learning. Her goal is to create things that make her happy, as well as the customer, specially when the product becomes something used everyday. Glass Artist Shawn Messenger
    Shawn Messenger was one of the first women to receive a BFA in glass from Cleveland Institute of Art. She also attended Pilchuck Glass School, studying under Dale Chihuly and Italo Scanga and Penland School of Crafts with a focus on murrini. This is was a shape or pattern, such a flower, is crafted out of glass and made into a glass cane. So when you cut a cross section out of the glass, the pattern of a flower is shown. Parts of the cane art added to blown glass. The vase below is a beautiful example of how Shawn uses murrini in her work.

   "My work has been greatly influenced by my love of nature and the wonders it has to offer us. I have tried to incorporate my fondness for flowers and gardens with glass to create an impressionistic vision of the landscape. For me, the flowers are small worlds filled with colors and shapes that produce incredible beauty. The glass murrinis in my work represent the flower. These flowers together become a field of color floating between grasses and stones. This is much like a millefiore, a million flowers. My intention is to evoke a feeling of serenity and solitude, an homage to nature."

A Sneak Peak: New Jewelry Pictures!!

Today was an extremely sunny and warm day here in Lovell, making it the perfect day to take pictures of jewelry! Our employee Alanna was a great model for all of these pieces. 

Here is Morning Glory, a yellow gold ring with Maine tourmaline! This picture was one of the favorites that was taken today (although, really, they are all our favorites). Alongside it is our gold link bracelet- a simple and elegant combination of accessories. Please click on the image to learn more about the ring! 

Modeled in this photo is a pair of Minimal Hoops in 14K Gold. These are lightweight, delicate hoops that hang from a bar. These hoops are perfect for any occasion. Please click on the image to learn more about these earrings!

Finally, here is hibiscus, a pink Maine tourmaline ring made of 14K gold, and an interlace white gold bracelet. The pink of the tourmaline with the shine of the white gold will make anyone sparkle under the sunlight. Dreamcatchers

Lenny Novak is the creator of these beautiful, unique dreamcatcher sculptures. He has been creating them since the early 90's after he first saw an Obijway Dreamcatcher made by Gail Carlson. After seeing hers, he attempted to duplicate the web and eventually developed his own style.

He has been continuously improving his technique and has been featured in many different contemporary exhibits such as: the Great Plains Museum in Lincoln, the Abbe Museum, the Mount Kearsarge Indian Museum in Warner and many others as well as being a featured artist of various galleries and colleges.

Sunny Plein Air And A Brief Visit From An Owl!

Yesterday, July 16th, was Doug Houle's plein air! It was a warm, sunny day, and he chose to paint the image of the fence outside the gallery with some flowers. 

Here is the painting at its stopping point, Doug wanted to use a bright base color, such as this red, to give the finished painting brightness from within. He also commented on the fact that using a bright base color is useful when you have limited time to complete painting, such as yesterday during the plein air!

On the same day, the gallery said hello to "Hoot"! A sculpture of an owl that is making a brief visit, as it is already sold. 

Here is the owl being transported to its temporary home! We are so grateful for the help moving it in- as it is 6 feet tall.

Kristen Dill

One of our talented artists featured within the gallery is painter, Kristen Dill. Kristen is a very talented artist and paints in both watercolor as well as oils. She makes use of beautiful, vibrant colors in order to make her paintings stand out in any room. Each one of her paintings is unique and will help bring a splash of color into your home.

Plein Air With Diane Scott

Today, a sunny July day at the gallery, Diane Scott set up her easel to paint plein air! She painted two different pieces today: a portrait of Catie- one of our workers, and a glass painting study.  

Here is Scott working on her painting of Catie, she states that "Its hard to make a dull painting brighter, but it's really easy to make a bright painting dull", in response to the question, "Why do you say 'If you're smart you always go bright'?"
